Nitrates and nitrites are typically added to processed meats like hotdogs, ham, sausages, and bacon. They are used as preservatives, in order to aid in preventing the growth of harmful bacteria. They add a salty flavor to the meat as well as improve the appearance by giving them a pink or red color. Is this good news? No, not at all! Quite a few years ago, there were findings that nitrates and nitrites cause cancer. When I use to eat meat, I was an all-beef hotdog lover. I loved Kosher hotdogs such as Sabrett hot dogs that you can find at a hotdog stand on the streets of N.Y. and for a while in some Las Vegas Home Depot parking lots and I also liked Nathans hotdogs. After hearing about how poisonous nitrates are to our bodies years ago, I started purchasing Oscar Meyer all-beef hotdogs without nitrates. As with all research, you will find contrast in the findings. The bottom line is that it is always left to us to make a decision. Do we eat it? Do we take it out of our diets? Before I share the findings, I want to add that it is quite odd how people will continue to eat something that may be potentially hazardous until they find proof that it is actually hazardous. Why not stop eating it until you find out? Would this not make more sense? Being told what to eat or advertising food with toxins is deceptive! Apparently, you can find nitrates and nitrites in vegetables and naturally occurring in our bodies. In fact, they are beneficial in lowering high blood pressure and a few other ailments. However; once heated by cooking at high temperatures, these chemicals become carcinogens and are hazardous to our health. https://www.healthline.com/…/are-nitrates-and-nitrites…
